Submissions

We love mail! Even more, we love mail from other furries. More still, we love mail from other furries in the ANZ region. Our love is boundless and unqualified for mail from other furries in the ANZ region which include submissions for the 'zine.

Cover Art

We're also looking for people to do covers for the magazine, so if you can do a cover incorporating "South Fur Lands", we want to see it. We don't care how you include the title, as long as it is prominent enough to indicate it is the title. It is intended that the covers will be in colour whenever possible, but a really good black & white drawing may also be acceptable.

What do I get?

Anyone who contributes one full page or more that we use gets a free copy of that issue!

Submission Guidelines

Although the main focus of South Fur Lands is Australasia, we welcome all submissions from anyone who lives south of the equator. So whether you live in Indonesia, Peru or South Africa, show us what you've got! Submissions from those living north of the equator will also be accepted; we prefer that they have some kind of Australasian or south of the equator feel to them, but that is not compulsory.

The kind of things we're looking for include stories, both text-only and illustrated, artwork, comic strips and any type of reviews of furry material, or just any views you have on furrydom today.

Details

  1. We would prefer that all those with email accounts send their text submissions via email, preferably in RTF (MS Rich Text Format), or any major word processor format. If this is not available, send text submissions on a 3½ inch floppy disk or CD-ROM. As a last resort, send typed submissions, with the lines preferably double spaced.
  2. All artwork is to be sent as good quality photocopies. If you send originals, we will not be held responsible for them! Black and white inked works please. No pencils. Up to A4 size (210 mm x 297 mm) or US Letter size (8.5" x 11") is preferred. We will also take images scanned at 300 dpi resolution MINIMUM, and preferably 600dpi for line art. Greyscale is preferred over 2-bit Black & White in this case. TIFF (PC not MAC) is the preferred format (Zip it up), PDF and GIF (where it's appropriate) are good too, but we can accept several other non-lossy formats. JPEG should be avoided where possible because of the problems with lossy compression. They may be sent on computer media or as an email attachment.
  3. Please give us a title for the piece or we will have to invent one! Please remember to put your preferred name for credit in the magazine if we haven't published you before. Please provide/update your contact details.
  4. Email sfl@chakatsden.com for all queries and submissions of text pieces. For high-resolution image files, please use southfurlands@gmail.com instead as that can take much larger attachments. If it still manages to exceed that, contact me to discuss alternatives, such as FTP.
  5. You, as creator, will retain copyright, but we will have the right to print your work in any single issue and to use it in reprints in the same format. We reserve the right to edit text submissions.
  6. For the regular fanzine, we will take up to an Australian "M" rating in movie terms, i.e., minimal nudity (non-explicit) and violence unless we believe it's necessary to keep the story coherent.
  7. For the Adults-only "Sex & Violence" Annual, anything legal is okay, but we are looking for tasteful erotica and meaningful violence in preference to extreme pornography or horrific violence.
  8. Submission deadlines for the regular quarterly issues are around the first day of March, June, September and December. Those for the adult annual are due by the beginning of November. Please try to get them in sooner though.
